Oeiras hosts several shows that make up the program of the Festival Sete Sóis Sete Luas (FSSSL), which this year will run from June 23rd to September 1st.
The main stage continues to be at Fábrica da Pólvora (Powder Factory), in Barcarena, and Parque dos Poetas.
Remember that the FSSSL is promoted by a vast Cultural Network of cities from several Mediterranean countries and the Portuguese-speaking world: Brazil, Cape Verde, Croatia, Slovenia, Spain, France, Israel, Italy, Morocco, Portugal, Tunisia and Turkey.
The starting point for this Festival is the promotion of art and culture with the aim to bring together countries, cities, and people, which is based on a strategy of cohesion, territorial decentralization, and intercultural fusion. The exchange established gives rise to a set of synergies, inviting a journey of discovery and enjoyment through the worlds of art, gastronomy folklore, architecture, and heritage of the regions involved, and their people.

We are what we see, what we think, what we read, and what we hear.
Over these four decades, Jazz em Agosto has been the result of the sum of all the musicians who have visited us, their projects, their proposals, their messages, and their creativity.
The 40th edition will not be a commemorative edition, but rather another part to be added to the whole, bringing together in the festival space the musical choices that we considered to be the most striking, challenging, and less conventional in jazz and creative music in the present time.
The sum of all these parts is our legacy, our Manifesto, in which the next step will always endeavor to be more disruptive than the previous one or simply different, only made possible by the constant search for these exceptional musicians.
From the role of Mahalia Jackson as a civil rights activist, remembered here by James Brandon Lewis's quintet, to the celebration of Stravinsky's "Rite of Spring" in a version for two pianos by Sylvie Courvoisier and Cory Smythe, the evocation of the Fluxus movement in Darius Jones's project, the creation of a manifesto for the Beatnik movement by Dieb 13, or through the reinvention of Mats Gustafsson's Fire! Orchestra, there are several intersections of the past with the present in this Jazz em Agosto.
Just like us, these musicians know that we must understand the past well, filter out the best it has left us, and reject simplistic solutions and the superfluous; only then will we be able to move towards a more ambitious future.
From 1 to 11 August, with 17 concerts spread across the Open-Air Amphitheatre, the Grand Auditorium, and Auditorium 2, giving the stage to large and small ensembles, always guided by the pleasure of discovery, we will be here.
With undisguised pride in the past, but with Jazz em Agosto inviting us to a party that celebrates the present.

🏛️ Exhibitions

📍Atelier-Museu Júlio Pomar | Rua do Vale, 7
💶 €2
The 1960s and 1970s were times of significant change in the work and life of Júlio Pomar. He moved from Lisbon to Paris and, following his renowned Tauromaquias series, he explored new themes in his paintings. In these works, he examined the formal representation of movement, speed, and tension. During this period, he held a series of successful exhibitions in both cities and participated in prominent international exhibitions, including at the Louvre Museum in 1971.
Júlio Pomar closely followed the rapid evolution of the avant-garde movements of the time. Despite being sensitive to the artistic ruptures of the time, he did not align himself with any specific groups or schools. Instead, he embarked on a personal journey of questioning and experimenting with his art. In 1966, he destroyed dozens of completed and unfinished paintings.
The changes in Pomar’s work paralleled the revolutions of the era, including the May 1968 protests in Paris and the April Revolution in Lisbon. He also engaged with other protest movements and shifts in societal behavior.
This exhibition delves into this period of exploration and reorientation in Pomar’s career, showcasing numerous works that have not been exhibited for a long time.
